Astonishingly, the average take-up has been 30.6% according to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, meaning BT will have to repay roughly £292m. This subsidy repayment, along with money from ‘efficient savings’, is intended to be re-invested to make the service available to 97% of homes by 2020.
